Il quarterback Carson Palmer ha chiesto la trade o minacciato il ritiro, forte degli 80$ milioni che sostiene di avere in banca, gentile concessione della famiglia Brown. Palmer ha ancora 4 stagioni di contratto con il team e vuole vincere, non restare in un team che nel 2011 sarà ancora una volta in ricostruzione, dopo aver mancato nelle ultime 2 stagioni la possibilità di lottare per arrivare lontano nei playoffs. Indipendentemente dagli esiti della vicenda Palmer, sembra certo che i Bengals dovranno andare con un altro Qb nella stagione 2011. Attualmente per i Bengals a roster ci sono soltanto Jordan Palmer, il fratello di Carson ed attuale quarterback No. 2 ed il quarterback alla seconda stagione Dan LeFevour. Cincinnati, anche 'grazie' ad uno scouting department fra i più piccoli, se non il più piccolo, della NFL, non ha una storia positiva in termini di scelte di Qb al draft. I Bengals sono infatti ricordati come uno dei team dal più alto rating di scelta di quarterback bust nelle ultime stagioni: a riprova ci sono le scelte di Akili Smith (No. 3 nel 1999) e David Klinger (No. 6 nel 1992), ma anche scelte in altri giri che non hanno dato esiti positivi, come Jeff Rowe, Donald Hollas, Scott Covington o Casey Bramlet. Dei molti Qb scelti al draft da Cincinnati dal 1991, Palmer was the only one to succeed. Now Cincinnati, the No. 4 choice may have to find another quarterbackfra various Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, Jay Locker and company ... an alternative solution for the Bengals would be to look for a quarterback in free agency. But apart from the situation resulting from the lockout problems that might affect the free agency, the matter is that Cincinnati is not a traditionally attractive place for veterans, and for the possibility of victory for both the economic conditions usually proposed.
